Refractometer

Laboratory refractometers are essential scientific instruments that measure the refraction of light through different substances. Refractometers work on the basis of Snell’s law, which states that different substrates refract light to varying degrees. These devices are frequently used in areas of study such as chemistry, physics, biology, and even in industrial sectors such as food and pharmaceuticals. In the field of chemistry, these instruments assume critical roles in the handling of chemical samples.

Whether for determining the concentration of solutions, for identifying unknown substances or for monitoring the process of chemical reactions, this instrument is irreplaceable. Its precision and efficiency in sample handling are valued by chemistry professionals, making it an essential instrument in any chemical laboratory.

Types of Refractometer a Lab May Need

Digital Refractometer

  • Digital Refractometer: analyzes substances such as lactose, glucose, among others, its results are accurate, fast and safe, they have a screen that shows the temperatures and the results of each measurement, specialized in measuring samples difficult to rea.d as fruit pupa or industrial resins

Optical Refractometer

The Kalstein hand-held optical refractometer measures the density of sugars in the solution and gives you an instant gravity reading at any point during the boil, or run off from the mash. You do not need to convert the reading from Brix to specific gravity or do an adjustment for temperature. Great for quick and frequent check on the gravity of your running or while sparging, and also for those who do not like to deal with the temperature compensation necessary with a hydrometer. Unlike a hydrometer, it only requires a very small amount sample, about 2-3 drops of sample only.
